Separation Anxiety

What is it? Separation anxiety and a fear of strangers is common in young children between 6 months and 3 years. It is a normal part of their development, it’s no one’s fault and it’s healthy and a normal part of growing up. Sometimes it seems to happen overnight, one day they are happy and don’t care if you are in or out of the room and then the next day they might be crying inconsolably if you even step out of sight. As important and normal as separation anxiety is, it can be overwhelming for you.

Separation anxiety can affect sleep, your little one may need more reassurance falling asleep at bedtime and during the night. This is ok. Go with your instinct and support your little one through this stage. It won’t be forever.
