My Take on Night Feeds

I feel like night feeds cause a lot of judgement and controversy. Everyone deals with their own baby’s nights and feeding in their own way. I wouldn’t ever tell you what your baby ‘should be doing’.

I know some people are fine with night feeds up to two years plus and some want them gone as soon as possible. It’s all about what you feel comfortable with and what your child needs.

If you are wanting to night wean your little one, here are some things to consider;

How are they feeding during the day? On a hunger level we’d usually expect night feeds until at least 6 months old but it is more common to continue within the first year.

How many feeds do YOU feel they need? Trust your instincts. You know your baby best.

Have you tried resettling instead of a feed?

Are they suffering from reflux, wind or stomach issues? This could be the cause of multiple night wakes and finding the cause of the discomfort first could help get longer stretches during the night.
